Educational Philosophy and Approach: Experiential Learning and Personal Therapy

Experiential Learning

The training process is interactive and experientially based, drawing on a humanistic and contemporary adult educational model. The knowledge and experience of group members is valued and utilised in the learning. By using the term "experiential" we are referring to the active participation of students in practice work and also to a process of learning where the exploration and articulation of each student's subjective experience is encouraged and included.

Personal Therapy

It is a requirement of the course that students are engaged in personal psychotherapy (at least once weekly) for the duration of the course. This is an important aspect of training as it gives psychotherapists-in-training a personal experience of the psychotherapy process, as well as providing an opportunity for personal change and development.
